Nintendo has announced a new Switch model that features an OLED display

Nintendo today announced the release of a new version of its Switch gaming console

Nintendo today announced the release of a new version of its Switch gaming console. Known simply as the Nintendo Switch (OLED model), the new model boasts an improved display, increased storage capacity, improved speakers and a more attractive design overall.

The 7-inch OLED display is the most notable addition to this model. Despite the fact that both have the same 1280x720 resolution, this is a significant upgrade over the 6.2-inch IPS LCD found on the standard model.

In addition, the sunlight readable LCD model has a redesigned kickstand on the back. In contrast to the small strip on the standard model, the OLED model has a wider flap that is more durable and can be adjusted to a variety of different positions.

Another improvement has been made to the audio quality. However, Nintendo does not specify what has changed, other than to say that the audio from the bottom-firing stereo speakers has been improved over the previous model.

The docking station that comes with the OLED model has also been updated to reflect this. While in docked mode, you can benefit from an integrated LAN port, which provides more reliable wired connectivity than was previously possible. This dock is available for purchase separately and should be compatible with both the standard model and the upgraded model.

Introduction to OLED displays

When it comes to the interior, there isn't much to report because there isn't much to say. The only difference between this model and the standard model is the presence of 64GB of internal storage, which is twice as much as the standard model. The small oled display model is still powered by the same Nvidia Tegra X1 SoC that has been in the Switch since its inception, so don't expect games to run any faster.

Aside from these modifications, this remains the same as the standard Switch that we have all grown accustomed to seeing and using. This means that it is compatible with all of the same games and accessories as the standard model, as well as having the same rated battery life.

The Nintendo Switch (OLED model) will be available for $350 and will be available starting on October 8th. Additionally, an exclusive White set will be available in addition to the standard Neon Red/Neon Blue color scheme. It will be available for purchase alongside the Switch ($300) and Switch Lite ($200) models.
